Clayborne awardState Senator James F. Clayborne (D-Belleville) received an award this week from the Child Death Review Team for his work in ramping up efforts to investigate infant death in Illinois.
“I am very honored to have received this award, and I also commend the Child Death Review Team for all the work they do,” said Clayborne. “The death of a child is a terrible thing and should never go without investigation. No child and no infant should die in vain. I stay committed to this cause.”
Oftentimes, infant deaths are reported as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, cases with no further investigation. Clayborne’s work in the state legislature helped to address this issue.
In 2010 Clayborne championed legislation that brought a task force to Illinois that would require further investigation and report on cases of infant death.
