Belleville- State Senator James Clayborne (D-Belleville) recently spoke at a Belleville chamber of commerce event on Monday to discuss budget issues being discussed in Springfield.
The update was part of an "Issues and Eggs Breakfast" sponsored by the chamber's government affairs committee.
"The Governor has great ideas for what he believes should happen for the state, but, state government is totally different for him. I don't think he really understands the consequences of the decisions he has made," Clayborne said.
The Senator expressed that in order to have a successful budget year there needs to be constant communication and both sides need to find a way to work together.
"We're trying to get him to understand there has to be compromise. We've got to sit down and work this through in a bipartisan fashion and set politics aside."
